5 Regina Pats selected in 2015 NHL draft

A new crop of Saskatchewan hockey players are set to make the jump to the NHL.

Saskatchewan junior hockey players continue to be respected in the NHL.

Five Regina Pats and four Saskatchewan-born Western Hockey League players were selected in this year's NHL draft out of Las Vegas.

Jesse Gabrielle of the Regina Pats was the highest selected Saskatchewanian, chosen at 105th by the Boston Bruins. He was born in Moosomin, Sask.

Connor Hobbs and Colby Williams, both of the Pats and both born in Regina, were selected by the Washington Capitals.

Ochapowace, Sask., product Ethan Bear is joining the No. 1 overall pick — Connor McDavid — after being selected by the Edmonton Oilers.

Prince Albert-born Ryan Pilon, a defenceman with the Brandon Wheat Kings, was selected 147th overall by the New York Islanders.

Sam Ruopp from Zehner, Sask., was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
