Regina taxi driver stabbed in violent episode
2 other men sent to hospital with injuries
A Regina cab driver was stabbed multiple times in an incident that sent two other men to hospital Thursday night.
Police said two of the people who went to hospital suffered what they called life-threatening injuries.
Information about the driver came from a spokesman for Regina Co-op taxi, who said he had been stabbed three times with at least one neck wound.
According to the company's Akshay Padama, the man was a new arrival to the city and had been driving cabs for about three months.
Police said the incident took place around 9:30 p.m. CST on the 2100 block of Park Street. Officers found a taxicab stopped in the middle of the road. They said there had been some kind of altercation involving people inside and outside the vehicle.
The driver had tried to get out of the vehicle, police learned.
When officers arrived, a number of people were at the cab trying to assist one of the injured men.
Police are investigating the case as an attempted murder but have not yet announced any charges.
Two of the three men, ages 24 and 31, are still in hospital. Police confirmed Friday that the cab driver is the 31-year-old.
The third man, 22, who went to hospital was treated and released.
A fourth man, 20, was arrested, but there was no immediate word on charges.
Police continue to investigate. They're asking anyone with information to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
