Young cancer patient's benefit attracts NHL players
Adam McQuaid, Drew MacIntyre and Darryl Boyce play in charity hockey game
A charity hockey game for a 10-year-old cancer patient, which featured three Island players with NHL credentials, raised $14,000 Sunday night.
The charity hockey match, organized by Andrews Hockey School, included Adam McQuaid of the Boston Bruins, Drew MacIntyre of the Carolina Hurricanes and former NHLer Darryl Boyce.
Griffin's mom Trudy said community support for her family has been amazing.
"It's been really a difficult time for us, but we've had so much support from everybody," she said.
"We cannot thank everyone enough. We've had lots of people having prayers and there's been lemonade stands and little kids have been making baking items and having bake sales."
A benefit auction to help the family is being planned at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside on Aug. 20.
