Charlottetown is known by many as the birthplace of Confederation but now an Island MP wants to make it official.
Malpeque MP Wayne Easter has tabled a private member's bill called "An Act to Recognize Charlottetown as the Birthplace of Confederation."
The purpose of the legislation, Easter said, is to place in statute the recognition of Charlottetown as the birthplace of Confederation.
The MP for Charlottetown and now Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice, Sean Casey, has worked on the bill, said Easter.
As Canada approaches the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the legislation affirms a significant historical event in the nation's history, he said.
