The names and the amount they have donated are listed on his leadership campaign website.

"It's of public interest so it should be public knowledge. No, it wasn't required and it's an initiative of our campaign team," said MacLauchlan.

MacLauchlan indicated he has not heard any concerns from donors about having their campaign contributions listed.

An income statement from November 1, 2014 to January 21, 2015 shows MacLauchlan has raised more than $30,000.

Expenses are close to $25,000. A candidate for the leadership cannot spend in excess of $45,000 for campaign expenses.

Twenty-five per cent of the total donations will be used to help pay for the leadership convention. It is being held on February 20th and 21st.

MacLauchlan has imposed a limit of $300 on donations to his leadership campaign even though it is not a regulation to do so by the PEI Liberal Party.

"It's something that we all wanted to do wholeheartedly. We are actually disclosing those amounts down to a lower cap you might say of $30. So that's more than would be required under the law and I think it's all good."

Elections PEI does release a less detailed account of campaign donations and expenses. That account will not be released for another year.
