UPEI tuition to go up 3%
The University of Prince Edward Island Board of Governors has approved a tuition increase of three per cent for 2015-16, as part of the preparation for a balanced budget for the coming year.
The University of Prince Edward Island Board of Governors has approved a tuition increase of three per cent for 2015-16, as part of the preparation for a balanced budget for the coming year.
The budget is assuming a funding increase from the province of 1.6 per cent. In a news release, the university said there would be no layoffs, but some vacant positions will not be filled.
The total budget for UPEI is $107 million. The grant from the provincial government is the school's largest single source of revenue.
The core operating grant from the province has been unchanged since the 2012-13 budget, at $30,269,600.
The tuition increase will be used to cover a number of increased expenditures, in the expectation of flat enrolment numbers.
