UPEI students can use Aeroplan miles for tuition, books
University officials have agreement with HigherEdPoint.com
University of Prince Edward Island students can now use Aeroplan points to pay for everything from books to tuition.
University officials have just agreed to take part in the program offered through a company called HigherEdPoints.com.
"Miles are transferred to student accounts through different loyalty partners," said Tara Judson the comptroller at UPEI.
"And at this point they only have an agreement with Aeroplan. The way it works is that students or parents or grandparents can donate points towards a student's education," said Judson.
Judson explained that 35,000 miles will give the student $250, which is put in an account that the student can draw on for any part of their education.
So far, 19 Canadian post-secondary institutions are on board.
