U.K.-P.E.I. business partnerships pursued by premier
Premier meets with businesses that visited P.E.I. in July
P.E.I. Premier Wade MacLauchlan was trying to drum up business for P.E.I. during a recent stop in the U.K.
MacLauchlan has singled out exports as part of his economic plan for the province.
His meetings were mostly with companies in the aerospace and marine technology sectors in southern Wales and southwest England.
MacLauchlan said representatives from some of those businesses came to the Island in July to explore partnerships, and this was a chance to follow up.
"These things, they may not come immediately to companies setting up here, that would depend on an opportunity to do some business," he said.
"But they certainly know about the expertise that's in Prince Edward Island and the potential to work along with Prince Edward Island companies or to set up business here."
The final outcome may hinge on what happens with the Canadian and world economies over the next year, said MacLauchlan.
While in London he also met with officials with the High Commission at Canada House to talk about plans for an Atlantic trade mission to the U.K. next year.
MacLauchlan expects that will happen in late June and will also likely include stops in continental Europe.
