Monks planted 70,000 tulips last fall in Montague. They are now up and in bloom.

A field of tulips in Montague, P.E.I., is hard to miss — it's eye catching, vibrant colours almost demand to be photographed.

The monks with the Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society (GEBIS) planted more than 70,000 bulbs by machine last fall.

Now, they've invited the public to what they call a Tulip Blossom Social for a chance to explore the field.

"It's a way to share the beautiful flowers, the beautiful tulip blossoms with all Islanders," said Geoffrey Yang, executive secretary of the GEBIS.

"To share the beauty, and let everyone enjoy," is how Yang described the goal of the event.

"We really appreciate the feedback from all people coming in," said Yang.

"A lot of 'Oooohs' and 'Wow,' everyone goes home with huge smiling faces."

The tulip event is part of a number of different functions run by GEBIS to interact with the community.

The fields are open Thursday through Sunday between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
