Tories will press government on P.E.I. education cuts
Shocked but not surprised, says Lantz of education cuts
P.E.I.'s Progressive Conservatives will be going after the government over cuts in education, says Leader Rob Lantz.
Lantz said some classes in the province are already too large, and teachers should be added to the system, not taken away.
"I'm shocked but I'm not surprised. Last week in response to questions in the legislature, the minister said Islanders asked for this," he said.
"We had a solid plan to put forty teachers back in the classroom at no net cost because we know that this is a big concern of the public's: big class sizes, stressed out teachers with too many students in their class rooms and too few resources."
CBC News learned over the weekend that following Friday's budget 28 teaching positions were being cut from Island schools.
Education Minister Hal Perry said with declining student enrolments the cuts will not have a large impact.
