Summerside prepares for PEI 2014 finale
Dec. 31 party wraps up celebrations marking Charlottetown Conference 150 years ago
Thousands of people are expected in Summerside for the finale to the PEI 2014 celebrations on New Year's Eve.
The finale concert will feature Burton Cummings, The Rankin Family and country rockers Doc Walker. There will also be free family indoor and outdoor activities.
Organizers are adapting to the warm weather.
J.P. Desrosiers, the city's director of community services, said they're looking at moving some of the outdoor festivities because of the lack of frost on the ground.
"We're looking at a Plan B of moving the outdoor festivities adjacent to where they were deemed to be in front of Credit Union Place just a little bit to the west in the parking lot area so people have some firmer ground to stand on," he said.
"But from a programming perspective, nothing's really going to change."
Summerside is expecting 10,000 people for the Dec. 31 finale — the culmination of a year's worth of events marking the 150th anniversary of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference.
