Summerside a step closer to ambitious library project
Inspire Learning Centre would be a hub for learning and creativity
The Summerside Rotary Club is moving to take the next step in building the Inspire Learning Centre, an ambitious library project based on similar ideas to the new library in Halifax.
The building would do more than house books. It would include collaborative work spaces, and be a hub for learning and creativity in the P.E.I. city.
The Rotary club has raised $1.8 million, with a goal for $2.5 million.
Appealing to community
Steve Cudmore of the Rotary Club said a lot of the money raised so far has come from corporate donations, as well as some government funding. The next phase will be to ask the community for help.
"The rest of the campaign is all about the community getting involved and providing individuals the opportunity to participate in the success of this campaign."
"That's how we're going to close the gap between where we are and where we need to be."
The second phase of the campaign is set to start on Aug. 2.
