Stompin' Tom Connors property being purchased
Memorial for Stompin' Tom Connors planned for Skinners Pond school house property
A development group in Tignish, P.E.I. is buying land from the Tom Connors estate to have a permanent tribute to Stompin' Tom in Skinners Pond.
The 10 acre property includes the old school house where the music legend went to school.
The CEO of the Tignish Initiatives Corporation, Anne Arsenault, said the sale of the property has not been finalized yet, but the province has given its approval.
"We are working towards the completion of a fitting memorial for Stompin' Tom Connors in the West Prince area," said Arsenault.
"It is going to be a good draw to the area but he always had the intention of having something there on that property. So this just seems to be fitting that we are able to work towards having a memorial there at that location."
Arsenault said Tignish Initiatives is working with the estate to decide exactly what will be on the site, in addition to the school house.
She notes it will be probably 2016 before a memorial will be open.
