Soccer field will be ready for fall

Ron Annear, UPEI's acting athletic director, says the university's soccer field will be ready by the fall.

Annear says earlier this month a soccer player raised concerns about the poor quality of the field, but Annear says those concerns have been addressed and the field will be ready for the varsity soccer season.

"The physical plant has been well aware of the work required to improve both the soccer and rugby fields," he says. "In the spring, again, the physical plant athletic staff and both the men's and women's soccer coaches met to discuss the situation, and at that time the physical plant contacted consultants for advice and the plan was set in place to bring both pitches up to standard for the fall."

Annear says last summer new sod was set down after the old MacAdam field was turned into a parking lot for the new rink. He says the sod was not watered properly and it shrunk making the field unuseable last year, so the men's and women's soccer teams played their games off campus.

Annear says a lack of water won't be an issue this summer because an irrigation system has now been installed.
