Santas for seniors delivers hundreds of gifts
Volunteers deliver presents to isolated seniors
About 800 Prince Edward Islanders will receive a special gift this Christmas thanks to a program called Be a Santa to a Senior.
The program was started by Home Instead, an agency that provides in-home care for senior citizens. Gifts were donated by the public and will be delivered to lonely and isolated Island seniors over the next week.
Emily Irving, one of the program's organizers, said these gifts go a long way to help seniors, who are often forgotten about during the holiday season.
“It's so crucial for us to recognize these seniors, because our seniors are one of the demographics that really do struggle at Christmas,” said Irving.
“There is a lot of depression and loneliness, but it really is so important for us to be able to bring them that gift and that community cheer as well.”
This is the eighth year the program has run on P.E.I.
