Selecting rowing teams for Rio meant 'tough decisions'
Women's quad scull amongst teams cut from Rio
Not sending the Canadian women's quad scull rowing team to Rio was one of a number of tough decisions Rowing Canada had to make for the Olympics, says high performance director Peter Cookson.
Emily Cameron of Summerside was a member of that team, and has now decided to retire from competitive rowing.
"Canada has qualified seven boats for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games including four women's crews," said Cookson.
"Throughout our selection processes, we had to make tough decisions to determine the events that would play to the strength of our athletes and the quality of the teams we will face at the Olympic Games."
Cookson said Rowing Canada is confident Canada has a strong team going to Rio, and said it will continue to develop a variety of boat classes to achieve the goal of being one of the top rowing nations in the world.
