Roller Derby expanding on P.E.I.
Roller derby on P.E.I. may soon have a second team, as women come together to play in the western part of the Island.
Last August the Red Rock n' Roller Derby group couldn't find a place to practice, but now the 40-member group has two practice spots in Charlottetown. Group president Kirsten Lund told CBC News Tuesday currently the P.E.I. team has to travel off-Island to play against other teams.
"It reduces the amount of experiences that we might be able to have," said Lund.
"To set up those two teams means we might be able to set up a schedule where we can bout quite regularly. We get more skills building but it also means that we might be able to attract more people to come and watch, so more fans."
The group is holding two open houses in Charlottetown this week, as well as training sessions for new players and volunteers.
