Regis and Kelly coming to P.E.I. in July
$1M to bring morning talk show to Canada
The popular U.S. morning television talk show Live! With Regis and Kelly will make its first trip to Eastern Canada this summer, P.E.I.'s tourism minister announced Wednesday.
Rob Vessey confirmed at a news conference what had been a poorly kept secret. The show, with hosts Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin, will broadcast live from Confederation Landing Park in Charlottetown from July 12-15.
The total cost to taxpayers of bringing the show is $1 million, with $200,000 from Ottawa and $800,000 from the province.
Shortly after the official announcement, at 10:45 a.m. in Charlottetown, Ripa and Philbin announced the visit at the close of their live broadcast from New York City.
A news release from the province included a comment from show producer Michael Gelman.
"It's a great opportunity for us to be able to broadcast from the province," said Gelman.
"Charlottetown will provide an extraordinary backdrop for our brand of entertainment talk, celebrity interviews and musical performances, and we're really looking forward to showing our viewers the Island's special qualities."
The show is syndicated on stations in the U.S., and airs on CTV in Canada. This is its third visit to Canada. It has been to Niagara Falls, Ont., twice, in 1996 and 2006.
