A record number of cruise ships will be coming to Charlottetown this season and there will be more overnight stays, says the Charlottetown Harbour Authority.

Seventy-seven ships carrying more than 131,000 passengers and crew are expected between May 8 and Oct. 25.

That's up from 64 calls last year.

One of the ships, the Pearl Mist, will be staying overnight in Charlottetown on multiple occasions.

Last year, it made two overnight stops on P.E.I. and was the only ship to stay past dark.

"This year, we have, actually another record for us. We have six overnight calls with the Pearl Mist this year," said Corryn Morrissey, harbour authority spokeswoman.

Morrissey says last year, the ship got good feedback from passengers who took in nighttime attractions.

Once again, Holland America will be the most frequent cruise ship line visitor. It will have almost 40 calls.

Ships from Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian and other lines will also be in port.
