Province will link Bonshaw, Strathgartney parks
Premier Robert Ghiz says his government supports a recommendation to create what he calls P.E.I.'s first wilderness park in the Bonshaw-New Haven area.
The recommendation is in the final report of the Bonshaw Hills Public Lands Committee. The committee was made up of Islanders with expertise in land use, conservation and outdoor recreation. It was convened to make recommendations for land acquired by the province for a rerouting of the Trans-Canada Highway plus two existing provincial parks: Bonshaw and Strathgartney.
The park would provide year-round recreation, including hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
The report includes 20 recommendations, and a subcommittee will be appointed to work with government to determine which of those will be acted upon.
