Prince Edward given honorary degree, military title in P.E.I.
Prince Edward met with Canadian soldiers and received an honorary degree Saturday as he began a two-day visit to his namesake Island.
Edward flew to Pisquid, P.E.I., where he watched training exercises and had lunch with soldiers. He was also appointed colonel-in-chief of the Canadian Forces' P.E.I. Regiment.
The prince later received an honorary doctor of laws degree from the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown.
On Sunday, he will attend morning prayers at St. Peter's Cathedral in Charlottetown.
While his P.E.I. schedule is a busy one, there have been few opportunities for the public to see him. The first opportunity came Saturday afternoon as the prince toured the CARI complex, an athletics facility in Charlottetown.
Islanders can also see him on Sunday morning during the military parade in the parking lot by the provincial government buildings.
Edward is in Canada without his wife, Sophie, who is expecting their second child in December. The couple have a three-year-old daughter, Lady Louise Windsor.
