Police release murder scene photo

Charlottetown police have released a picture of a note scrawled on the wall of the room where Byron Carr was killed 19 years ago, in the hopes of generating new leads.

The small message, just a few inches across and written in ballpoint pen, reads, "I will kill again." Police released the text of the message at the time of the murder, but there have been no images of the message itself released before now.

Police believe the message was written by Carr's killer.

Byron Carr was 36 when he was killed in his own home in November 1988 on a quiet street in Charlottetown. He was strangled to death and stabbed. His killer has never been found.

Police reopened the cold case a few months ago and have been trying to generate new leads. Posters have been put up around Charlottetown asking for help, and all the evidence from 1988 has been reviewed. Police have consulted a handwriting expert about the note, but they're also hoping someone might recognize the scroll-like handwriting on the wall.

Investigators believe someone knows who the killer is, but may have been reluctant to come forward back in 1988, perhaps because Carr was gay and they didn't want anyone to know they were gay, or maybe they were afraid.
