P.E.I. police officers will be 'freezin for a reason' Sunday
Officers and volunteers jump into ice-cold water to raise money for Special Olympics
RCMP and municipal police officers across Prince Edward Island will be taking a cold dip Sunday, but it is all for a good cause.
They will be "Freezin for a Reason" in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraiser that raises money for Special Olympics.
Some officers will be jumping in swimming pools filled with cold water at the RCMP headquarters in Charlottetown while officers in Summerside will be taking a dip in the harbour at the Marine Centre.
"Basically, all the law enforcement agencies in Prince Edward Island are getting together trying to raise funds. We have sponsored plungers that are going to be taking the plunge for us, jumping into the ice-cold water and trying to warm themselves up after that I guess," said Cpl. Scott Stevenson, media relations officer for the P.E.I. RCMP.
Teams have been raising money for officers, and volunteers from the public, to take the plunge.
The event begins at 1 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.
In 2015, the plunnge raised $12,000 for Special Olympics.
