Trudeau visit draws young people in Charlottetown
Prime minister makes no policy statement, fields no media questions during quick P.E.I. stopover
Young people seemed to be particularly attracted to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during his brief visit to Charlottetown Tuesday afternoon.
Trudeau was in Charlottetown for about four hours, shaking hands and posing for selfies in the downtown, and visiting the fairground at Old Home Week.
Sixteen-year-old Vanessa Rice of Charlottetown has been reading Trudeau's book and got him to sign her copy. Rice said the prime minister's views appeal to young people.
"[He's] very vocal about how he's a feminist so that's very important to me in a leader, and he stands up for a lot of LGBTQ+ rights," she said.
"It's just amazing to have such a good leader."
Trudeau also met briefly with P.E.I. Premier Wade MacLauchlan while he was on the Island.
On Tuesday morning, while still in Nova Scotia, Trudeau expressed his support for maintaining the Northumberland Ferries service between P.E.I. and Nova Scotia, but he did not make any policy statements while on the Island. Nor did he field any questions from reporters on P.E.I.
