RCMP investigates threats uttered at western P.E.I. intermediate school
Incident at M.E. Callaghan did not pose a risk to student safety, RCMP say
Police are conducting a criminal investigation into an incident Tuesday at M.E. Callaghan Intermediate school in western P.E.I., although it was found not to pose an immediate risk to student safety.
Officers went to the school after one student threatened two other students, said Cpl. Gavin Moore, media relations officer for the P.E.I. RCMP.
School officials and police "thoroughly examined the situation and determined the threat did not pose a risk" to either the threatened students or the rest of the student population, Moore told CBC News.
"Even if a threat is determined to not be viable, it does certainly have an impact — a disruptive impact," Moore said, adding that a criminal investigation is underway.

In an email statement, the Public Schools Branch said the situation is being taken seriously and the school is addressing the incident.
"Schools have procedures in place to create safe spaces for students and staff when serious incidents occur," the statement reads. "Any students who wish to speak with someone are asked to connect with school staff so this can be arranged."
