Summerside man faces multiple child pornography charges
Part of ongoing investigation, say police
Police in Summerside, P.E.I., have arrested a local man on suspicion of possessing child pornography.
Police said the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation.
Police said they searched a 28-year-old man's residence on March 31. He was arrested and a number of electronic devices were seized.
"Computers and cell phones were seized for examination, to determine whether or not there are any child pornography or any related images on those devices," said Sgt. Jason Blacquiere, Summerside Police Services.
Blacquiere said police don't believe there are any local victims, and that it appears the accused retrieved the images from other internet sites.
"The allegations are that he possessed and distributed," he said.
He couldn't say how many images were involved but said it was "significant" number.
Blacquiere said specifically trained offices will be be examining images.
The suspect was released from custody. Police said he will be appearing in court for his first appearance on June 3 to answer to charges.
"We anticipate multiple charges," said Blacquiere.
The major crime unit and the digital forensics unit of the RCMP assisted in the investigation, said Blacquiere.
