The P.E.I. government is appointing a new principal adviser who will be solely focused on the health of seniors.

Seniors are Prince Edward Island's fastest-growing population.

The new position will help Island seniors live with the respect they deserves, says Health and Wellness Minister Rob Henderson. (Government of P.E.I.)

"We need to look for innovative solutions that are more responsive to the needs of seniors, allowing them to continue to live in comfort and with the respect they deserve," said Health and Wellness Minister Rob Henderson in a news release.

The P.E.I. Senior Citizens' Federation said it was happy to hear about the new appointment.

Government said the adviser's goals will include helping seniors maintain active lifestyles, remain engaged in their communities, and stay informed about the services available to them.

The adviser will work closely with the established Seniors' Secretariat.

The government is currently inviting applications for the position.
