Open or closed? P.E.I. schools report coming next week
Review on school utilization began in September
Islanders will be able to get an update next week on changes being considered for Island schools as part of a review that began in the fall.
The public is invited to a meeting of the board of directors of the Public Schools Branch Tuesday, Jan. 10, for the release of the latest report in the P.E.I. school utilization review process. The meeting is at East Wiltshire school in Cornwall, P.E.I., at 7:30 p.m.
The review is considering how to better use school infrastructure in the province, where many schools are underutilized and some are overcrowded. The report is expected to recommend rezoning of schools, and perhaps some closures.
More public consultation
Anyone who wants to make a presentation to the board at the meeting has to submit a written request by Monday, Jan. 9. This opportunity to present is the same at all board meetings, and is not related to the tabling of the report.
However, there will be further opportunities for the public to provide feedback after the meeting.
The board policy requires that people are given 60 days where they can give their input on the draft report, before the final report is completed.
The Public Schools Branch said it will have another set of meetings, again divided by family of school, where people can share their thoughts on the report's recommendations.
The details of that process will be announced after the draft report is released next week.
