P.E.I. RCMP say one man is dead following a collision on Route 2 in the Hunter River area Thursday evening.

Cpl. Glenn Dudley said officers responded to the call around 5 p.m. He said the collision involved a motorcycle, but couldn't say whether it was the driver who was killed.

RCMP posted a tweet alerting drivers of a road closure along Route 2 between Hunter River and Hazelgrove and asked drivers to find an alternate route. The highway reopened just after 9:30 p.m.

Dudley said traffic analysts remained on scene. He said the New Glasgow fire department and Department of Transportation also responded to the accident.

RCMP officials said they are offering no further details at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
