P.E.I.'s Professional Theatre Network targets theatre vacationers

P.E.I. has an opportunity to market to people interested in watching professional theatre while on holiday, says the Professional Theatre Network.

'They could see eight or more professional theatre productions'

P.E.I. has an opportunity to market to people interested in watching professional theatre while on holiday, says the Professional Theatre Network.

The Network, with six professional companies as members on P.E.I., formed earlier this year.

Network chair Catherine O'Brien said the companies plan to work together to do joint marketing.

"We have an opportunity here," said O'Brien.

"Because P.E.I. is so small, tourists could come to the Island and during the peak summer they could see eight or more professional theatre productions in their stay, in a week's stay. And, and not have to travel that far."

The group also wants to work with the province to make information about theatre more visible and easy to understand on the Tourism PEI website.

The Professional Theatre Network includes Confederation Centre, Victoria Playhouse, the Harbourfront Theatre, Young at Heart, Watermark Theatre and The Guild.
