Power restored to much of P.E.I. after thousands of outages Sunday
Summerside had significant outage restored before noon
Maritime Electric has restored power to all but a few customers after as many as 6,000 were without electricity early Sunday.
The outages were caused by high winds, Maritime Electric spokesperson Kim Griffin told CBC News in an email.
The utility said in an email earlier Sunday that it hoped to have service restored to all those affected by 5 p.m.
Much of Summerside was also without power Sunday morning.
It's unclear exactly how many of Summerside Electric's customers lost power. But in an email to CBC, the city cited a blown fuse as the cause of the outage.
Power was fully restored to all Summerside Electric customers at 1:30 PM.
The city, which operates its own utility, said on its Facebook page that all power across the city was restored at about 1:30 p.m.
The Confederation Bridge reported wind speeds of 49 km/h with gusts of 57 km/h as of 2:50 p.m. Sunday.
