E. coli prompts recall from P.E.I. shellfish company
Five Star Shellfish Inc. is recalling its Malpeque brand of large standard oysters because of E. coli contamination.
Oysters were shipped to retailers on the Island on Aug.15
Five Star Shellfish Inc. is recalling its Malpeque brand of large standard oysters because of E. coli contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the oysters were distributed to retailers on P.E.I. They were shipped on Aug. 15.
The recall notice does not include information about how the bacterial contamination was discovered, or whether anyone has been made ill by the oysters.
E. coli bacteria can cause symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps and occasionally fever.
These symptoms usually appear three to four days after infection.
