A shed housing a wood-fired furnace in western P.E.I. burned down Monday morning.

The Wellington Fire Department received the call from Mont Carmel at 6:47 a.m. They found a shed fully engulfed in flames.

The firefighters were able to quickly douse the flames, and remained on the scene for a few hours, tackling the many hotspots. The shed was a total loss. Firefighters were concerned about a larger workshop and a house nearby, but fortunately the wind was blowing the flames away from nearby buildings.

The furnace in the shed was used for heating the house and the workshop. In addition to the furnace it contained seven cords of firewood and some tools.

The building was insured.

There was no one in the shed at the time of the fire. The cause is not yet determined.
