Opening announcement for P.E.I.'s North Shore lobster fishery delayed until Tuesday
Setting day for LFA 24 was originally scheduled for Monday
Lobster fishers on P.E.I.'s North Shore are still waiting to get the green light to set their traps for the 2024 spring season.
The opening of lobster fishing area (LFA) 24, which ranges from around North Cape to East Point in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, was originally scheduled for Monday morning. Due to high winds and waves in the marine forecast, however, Fisheries and Oceans Canada opted to delay the opening during a call with harbour representatives on Saturday.
A call scheduled for Monday was also delayed. The next call will be made Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, the South Shore fishery in LFA 26A opened Saturday after a one-day delay due to high winds forecast for the Northumberland Strait.
Many fishers in that area returned with their first catches of the season on Monday.
