P.E.I.'s May Run Festival launched Thursday night, and Kinley walked off the stage with the first major prize.
Kinley, who launched her first solo CD — Letters Never Sent — in October, won songwriter of the year at an event in Georgetown. The show featured performances Kinley and her fellow nominees Nick Doneff, John MacPhee of Paper Lions, Dylan Menzie, Andrew Waite, Caleb Gallant of Ten Strings and a Goat Skin, as well as host Lennie Gallant.
Kinley won for her song Microphone.
A total of 30 awards will be handed out during the festival, which wraps up Sunday.
