The latest P.E.I. flu numbers reveal the Island is seeing regular levels of activity for this time of year.
According to the P.E.I. influenza summary, there have been 35 lab-confirmed cases of influenza so far this winter, including 12 hospitalizations and one death.
The median age of people contracting the flu to date is 35-years-old. The decrease in age of people being hit with the flu is not unexpected — this year's strain tends to affect younger people.
Around this time last year, there had been 119 lab-confirmed cases of the flu, 50 hospitalizations and three deaths.
Reported, lab-confirmed flu cases are typically only a small portion of actual cases in the community, as not everyone is tested for influenza.
