A 77-year-old man out for a walk was struck and killed in Summerside on Thursday morning.

Police say the man lived in the neighbourhood where he was struck by a Ford F-350 pickup truck, on Elm Street near Willow Avenue. They say the man's wife says he was out for a morning walk at the time, about 7:30 a.m.

"He died at the scene from his injuries," said Sgt. Jason Blacquiere.

There has been no decision on charges in the incident, he added. Police don't believe speed, alcohol or drugs played a part in the fatal collision.

Roads were closed as members of the forensic section reconstructed the incident, and Summerside Police were asking people to avoid the area.

A police team was using a drone to survey the scene and officers were marking any evidence they saw.

RCMP were on the site to assist with accident reconstruction.

Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time to call 902-432-1201.

"We don't have a really clear picture yet of the entire incident; that's still under investigation," said Blacquiere.
