A 76-year-old man is dead after a two-vehicle collision in western P.E.I.

Prince District RCMP said in a news release that the head-on crash happened on Allen Road, Route 122, in Lot 16 at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man was declared deceased at the scene.

Police said another man, aged 42, was taken to Prince County Hospital in Summerside with serious injuries.

The provincial coroner and an RCMP traffic reconstructionist were called to the scene, and the investigation continues.

Cpl. Gavin Moore, the P.E.I. RCMP's media relations officer, said there is no indication at this stage of the investigation that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Warning to respect weather

Given the recent rainy weather on the Island, Moore said it's important for Islanders to adjust their driving depending on the conditions.

"If visibility is reduced in rain or snow or fog, we should all slow down and just be that much more careful when we drive," he said.

Route 122 was closed to all traffic for several hours after the crash.

Members of the Miscouche Fire Department, Summerside Police Services and Island EMS were also sent to the scene.
