P.E.I. Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Heather Morrison announced one new case of COVID-19 at her regular pandemic briefing Tuesday.

The new case is a woman in 20s who is a close contact of one of the cases announced Friday. The woman had not travelled outside the Atlantic bubble, but was self-isolating with one of the positive cases.

Morrison cautioned that people are still travelling outside of the Atlantic bubble, many for essential work, and she urged those Islanders to take extra care as the severity of the second wave increases.

"Now is the time for everyone to assume the person next to them in a public setting may have COVID-19," she said.

Physical distancing and wearing a mask are crucial lines of defence against contracting coronavirus, said Morrison. She said she and her team are growing increasingly concerned about the second wave.

"I do worry that we will be sitting here a month from now and it will look a lot different than it does now," she said.

"Because it is all around us, and it is knocking on our door."

There are now three active cases on the Island. All are self-isolating, said Morrison, and contact tracing is complete.

P.E.I. has had 67 cases of COVID-19, including the three that are currently active. There have been no deaths and no hospitalizations.
