How can the town expand its public transit service?
The Town of Cornwall ridership numbers have increased greatly almost to the numbers prior to COVID-19 therefore that would suggest T3 is working in this town. Expansion of the routes to meet our new subdivisions, the addition of times to meet the needs of our residents as well the possibility of a park and ride would be a positive initiative for the town.
Cornwall is growing rapidly — how can the town better suit the needs of its booming population?
While going door to door it has become very clear that the residents would like trails that connect to downtown Cornwall as well as ones that connect to our active transportation trail, leading to Charlottetown and Stratford. With the growth that we are experiencing in Cornwall it has become evident that our recreation programming for our residents needs additional space and programming. The town has an official plan with a vision for growth and development that will enable residential and commercial growth in an orderly fashion.
How can the town better prepare for major storms like Fiona?
Our town needs to have a community response team which has an effective way to inform residents of what is happening. This team could consist of those who work within the town such as our public works staff to ensure the safety of our water and monitoring of our lagoons as well as additional members from within the town who would be responsible for the safety of the residents and help for those who may require additional assistance. It is apparent that we need a larger warming station set up that can meet the needs of all our residents. As well the town needs its own fuel supply for its equipment, and additional equipment purchased such as as generators. Fiona has left much destruction and devastation in its path resulting in financial, physical and mental strain for our residents. Hopefully time and the kindness of neighbours, friends and strangers will help people heal.
What major infrastructure improvements are needed within the Town of Cornwall?
Our town needs to bring infrastructure to service areas that will result in commercial development. Our present Main Street plan, our trail system, our active transportation and our new well field development are all such infrastructure improvements currently happening. There is also a plan for new water tower which of course all takes money and time.
Why are you the best choice for mayor?
The residents know me to be truthful, hard working, and dedicated to them and the town. As well, I have the proven ability to work with all levels of government to ensure the steady growth and prosperity of Cornwall. Residents know me to be accessible, a good listener and one who has their best interests at heart.
