Cornwall bypass traffic plan tweaked again
Two lanes opened through construction at peak times
The P.E.I. Department of Transportation is working to open up more lanes during heavy traffic times on the Cornwall bypass project.
Last week motorists were frustrated by long lines to get into Charlottetown in the morning.
Provincial chief engineer Stephen Yeo said crews are scheduling work so traffic keeps flowing at peak travel times.
"We're trying to manage two lanes on the inbound in the morning rush hour and two lanes of traffic in the outbound in the afternoon peak time," said Yeo.
"Traffic's moving fairly good."
The work on the North River Causeway this week includes putting in bases for the LED lighting system, a system for getting rid of storm water, and putting down gravel.
Yeo said the work is on schedule for the first phase to be completed by mid-November.
