P.E.I.'s French language college looks to expand beyond Acadian students

President Donald DesRoches says the college is welcoming a first year class of over 30 students, almost double the number it's seen in previous years. (College de l'ile)

P.E.I.'s French language college has a new name to go along with its new location in Charlottetown.

As of Monday Collége Acadie will be known as Collége de l'île.

College president Donald DesRoches hopes the name change will make the college an obvious choice for students who want to continue their education in French.

"We felt that Collége de l'île would even open that up," said DesRoches.

"So I'm in Grade 12 what do I do? Do I want to build on that capacity that I built over that period of time or do I want to go on to another institution in English?"

The college held an official opening Monday at its new location at 295 Kent St. in Charlottetown.
