Church inspired to share a meal
It's not just about people struggling to buy food
A church in eastern P.E.I., inspired by another local church, is offering a weekly free meal to residents.
Anyone is welcome to the meal at Montague's St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Wednesdays between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Congregation member Darren Dingwell said he was inspired by the other church and the need in the community to organize a second option for people. He said it is not just about people who are struggling financially.
"It's also for people that just want to be around other people," said Dingwell.
"Enjoy a meal and some conversation."
Dingwell said 34 people showed up for the first meal last Wednesday, some of them spending an hour-and-a-half just chatting.
People who want to offer support can make monetary or food donations, or they can volunteer to help, he said.
