Islanders who want their Christmas tree picked up should now have it at the curb.

Island Waste Management Corporation has trucks deployed this week to pick them up, says operations manager Heather Myers.

She said there are some things residents can do to ensure their tree is collected.

"It's good to keep your tree accessible so that the driver can pick it up. So we are having a bit of snow this week and some freezing temperatures, so it's good to go out, just pick the tree up and give it a shake. Make sure it's not frozen into the ground."

Trees longer than eight feet have to be cut in half, and all ornaments and tinsel should be removed.

Islanders who are missed in the pickup or who have late religious celebrations should call and let IWMC know no later than Jan. 14.

Artificial trees should go in waste. They should be bagged and left beside the black bin for the next pickup.

Some farms on P.E.I. are also accepting Christmas trees for their animals.
