Charlottetown's Wintertide Holiday Festival opens Friday night with the annual tree lighting and opening ceremony.
It gets underway at 6:15 p.m. at Province House, where free candles will be given out for the candlelight walk to the Confederation Centre Upper Plaza.
The Christmas tree will light up at 6:30 p.m.
From 6 a.m. until 7 p.m., there will be no parking on Grafton Street between Queen Street and Great George Street. From 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. (or until the conclusion of the event), Grafton Street will be closed to vehicles between Queen and Great George streets.
The Wintertide Holiday Festival is a series of events and celebrations leading up to the new year.
It includes the annual Santa Clause parade, which will be held Nov. 26.
