Charlottetown Airport to start runway improvements with runway extension
Runway extension first step in three year capital plan for runway improvements
The Charlottetown Airport will soon have two full-length runways, as it is calling for tenders to a 2,000 foot extension to it's crosswind runway.
"This would allow us to have two 7,000 foot runways," said Doug Newson, the CEO of the Charlottetown Airport Authority. "It would allow us to do work on our main runway without compromising any flight schedules or traffic patterns in the peak season."
Newson said the airport plans to begin the extension process this fall, which is the first phase of the three year capital plan for runway improvements.
It will be followed by a full rehabilitation of the main runway in 2018.
Newson said the three year plan is the biggest project the airport authority has undertaken since taking over the airport in 1999.
