P.E.I. will bid to host the 2023 Canada Games, after reaching a swap agreement with Northwest Territories, the original host of the games.
The Northwest Territories has agreed to switch hosting years with P.E.I. The Island was scheduled to host the games in 2031.
P.E.I. still has to go through an official bid process in order to secure the games, but faces no competition from other jurisdictions.
"The 2023 Canada Games … will be a province-wide showcase for the entire Island and our history, our culture, and our people," said Premier Wade MacLauchlan in a news release.
The Canada Games Committee will unveil the sports selections for the 2023 games in January.
The official bid process will start in May.
