P.E.I. Blue Jays fans celebrate team's first division win in 22 years
Many Islanders are on the Major League Baseball team's bandwagon
How about those Blue Jays?
It's a question you're probably hearing a lot on P.E.I. these days.
Last night, the Toronto baseball team officially won the American League East division for the first time in 22 years and P.E.I. fans are pretty excited.
Now she says she's hooked.
"It's definitely fun to feel like a part of a big family, seeing everyone in the crowds there, and talking to my friends here here who I suddenly realize are Jays fans. My parents are thrilled that they can finally talk about baseball to me."
Island sports bars that normally show hockey in the fall are now catering to Jay's fans.
There's definitely a few extra Blue Jay caps on a few heads these days.- Wade Babineau
"I was eight years old last time they won. I just turned 30 this year, so I think a lot of people kind of relived those memories," said ISE'S bar general manager Jamie Juniper.
"Once they started getting hot, we started getting people in. And it's really nice to see."
Wade Babineau has been a Jays fan since the club formed in 1977. He's suffered through a lot of letdowns, but he doesn't begrudge those who've just hopped aboard the Jays bandwagon.
Babineau says the more the merrier.
Greg Stapleton says it's not easy being a Yankees fan in Canada these days. He hears jabs at work and sees them online.
"Posting stuff on Facebook about, 'Yankees suck. How about those Blue Jays?'" he said. "And it's just disgusting."
The World Series playoffs start next week.
