Elmer MacFadyen, the provincial minister responsible for sport, says the cost of the games will be around $22 million. He says Islanders will pick up $3.1 million of the costs.

That figure includes $2 million in capital expenditures and another $1.1 million in operating costs.

The rest of the budget will include contributions from the host municipalities, federal government and the host society.
