P.E.I. budget 2014: Where the money is going
P.E.I. budget 2014, departmental expenditures
When Finance Minister Wes Sheridan first set forward his plan to eliminate the deficit in 2012, he said government would be holding the line on spending in all departments except health, which would see a three per cent increase.
That plan has been loosely followed. This year, 2014-15, most major departments are seeing identical expenditure budgets as compared to last year. Four departments — Health, Environment, Labour and Justice, Innovation PEI and Tourism and Culture — are seeing increases. Innovation and Advanced Learning has had its budget cut, as has Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
Health | +$17.4M | 3.0% |
Environment, Labour and Justice | +$1.3M | 2.1% |
Innovation PEI | +$3.0M | 13.8% |
Tourism and Culture | +$1.3M | 7.8% |
Innovation and Advanced Learning | -$6.8M | 5.6% |
Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal | -$2.9M | 2.9% |
